...GG's SOS - Summer of Service Competition

GOVERNOR GENERAL Sir Patrick Allen last week launched a Summer of Service (SOS) competition under the umbrella of his "I Believe Initiative (IBI)", hoping to increase volunteerism among youth, while offering them an opportunity to pursue academic goals. 

 

The competition, which will run from June 1 to August 16, is open to final year CAPE students and first year university students who wish to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences or Natural Sciences. READ MORE

 

Minister wants more Benefits for Non-Teaching Staff

MINISTER of Education Ronald Thwaites is calling on school administrators to provide better opportunities for non-teaching staff members.

According to Thwaites, low-income earners employed by schools such as groundsmen, secretaries, janitors, clerks and canteen staff members are being overlooked by administrators on matters such as pension plans. READ MORE

 

 

Mico Honours Educator turned Businessman

STEADMAN Fuller, an educator-turned-businessman, was recently honoured by his alma mater the Mico University College with the prestigious Gold Medal Award.

The award — presented at a ceremony held at the Knutsford Court Hotel recently — recognises not only the Kingston Custos Rotolorum's academic achievements and contributions to education, but also his accomplishments in business as well as his community service. READ MORE

 

 

St. Jago Bursar Cops Inaugural Kingston Bookshop Award

Bursar at the St. Jago High School in St. Catherine, Yvonne Lee, is the national winner of the Kingston Book Shop's inaugural Educational Support Staff Achievement (ESSA) award.

Mrs. Lee was among three other regional awardees, who were honoured at ceremony held on Friday (May 11) at the Terra Nova All-Suite hotel in Kingston.

Senior Secretary, Albert Town High School in Trelawny, Audrae Frater; Grounds man, Cross Keys High School in Manchester, Dexter Wright; and Home Economics helper at Tichfield High School in Portland, Barbara Allen, were the other awardees. READ MORE
